Slighe gu Biadh (The Food Trail)
BBC ALBA - Sky channel 168 or Freesat 110 (8 x 30
mins)
Slighe gu Biadh (The Food Trail) features the
best of Scottish produce. The eight part series features new
presenters Maggie Mackenzie and Alasdair Macleod.
The programme travels all over Scotland meeting people who are
passionate about the produce that is available on their doorstep.
Stunning Scottish scenery is the backdrop as Maggie and Alasdair
meet chefs, farmers, fish smokers, brewers and many more on their
odyssey to find the freshest local ingredients.
Each programme features dedicated food producers like Skye mussel
farmer Peter MacAskill, and every week a guest chef such as Iain
MacRury of The Polochar Inn on South Uist brings their expertise to
the screen with a dish using their favourite local ingredients. The
programmes all end with Maggie and Alasdair cooking up appetising
dishes from the produce they have collected along the way.
On their travels they have tasted delicious lamb from the Western
Isles, Highland Cattle beef from just north of Glasgow, cheese from
Ardesier near Inverness and haggis from Edinburgh. And along the
way they have also enjoyed a taste of Speyside Malt whisky and beer
brewed in Perth.
Traditional dishes handed down through generations feature in the
programme as well as modern recipes using ingredients such as
oysters and venison.
