BBC Northern Ireland  (3 series, 14 x 30 mins)

In 2005 Tern was commissioned by BBC Northern Ireland to make a sister series to the BBC Scotland’s Beechgrove Garden.  It is a TV series with its roots deep in the unique culture, climate and community of Northern Ireland, admitting failures - every gardener has them - as well as celebrating success.

Based on its own home garden, consisting of small domestic sized gardens and a large trials area, the development of the home garden from scratch provided a weekly narrative, retaining and building the audience.

The Greenmount Garden team are gardening guru John Cushnie, best known for his regular appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners Question Time, Claire Woods, senior lecturer at Greenmount Horticultural College,  and Cherrie McIlwaine (best known as the voice of Radio Ulster’s Gardener’s Corner).

With more gardens per head of population in Northern Ireland than anywhere else in the UK, the series is what presenter John Cushnie said was ‘what Northern Ireland has been waiting years and years for - a proper hands on gardening programme.’
