Intrepid cycling gourmet Nell Nelson takes to the roads as
The Woman Who Ate Scotland
. The passionate food fan is on her bike to find the best in Scottish food. Nell discovers a treasure trove of mouth-watering food, talented chefs and dedicated producers right on her own doorstep, and cycles through some of Scotland’s most breath-taking scenery.
Nell's culinary adventures for the 2nd series will be taking her to eight areas in Scotland including Glasgow, Tayside, Angus, Perthshire, Aberdeenshire and Shetland.
In Glasgow she enjoys an international experience with food made by new Scots from as far afield as New Zealand, the Congo, Poland and South Africa.
Another highlight of this series is Nell picking the ingredients for her own unique brand of wine in the countryside near Perth, she makes bread, scones and cakes as well as comforting casseroles and a very tasty pudding. She even tries her hand at making her own marmalade.
Nell’s passion for cycling and food have made her many friends as she journeys through Scotland. Many of the people she meets are keen cyclists and only too willing to hop on their bikes and show her the scenery near their homes. These bike rides offer glimpses of stunning Scottish landscapes, as well as opportunities to find some interesting hedgerow delicacies for another recipe.
The first series saw Nell pedal her way through eight uniquely different parts of Scotland. She sampled prawns on the West Coast, Arbroath smokies on the East Coast, helped cook venison in Banffshire and had oysters for breakfast at Loch Fyne. She battled blizzards as she cycled over The Pass of the Cattle from Applecross to Loch Carron and basked in glorious sunshine on the cliff top paths near Arbroath. Nell’s travels took her to Edinburgh for curry in a mosque, and to the Highlands to enjoy the gourmet cuisine on a luxury Caledonian Canal cruise.
Says Nell: “The opportunities for cycling in Scotland are incredible. And there are so many chefs who are passionate about food, and people dedicated to growing and using the freshest ingredients. The new series is yet another fantastic opportunity to meet these people and share their love of Scottish food, drink and of course scenery.”
